Ben, artist, age 9
There are many Living Solutions for us as we age.
Ben captured this in his picture of home. We all want to be healthy and mobile in our homes at any age.
As a pediatric physical therapist, my goal was assisting a child to be as independent as possible with as few restrictions in their home.
What if a teen has a ruptured tendon and restricted mobility or a middle aged person has chronic back issues? Together, we use UD principles, targeted home modifications, and identify their needs to support health and mobility at home.
As a health educator working with adults, the desire to age in place was something I heard over and over.
What about those in their golden years when physical and cognitive changes are starting to impact their safety and comfort? Together we listen to their needs, assess safety concerns and use UD to address the gaps, better achieving outcomes for health and home mobility.
UD creates opportunities for independence in a safe and comfortable home space. When UD has been in place all along, this allows the person not only to Age In Place but with dignity.
I will share ideas for Aging in Place safely and with dignity in the BLOG section for Independent Living, Assistive Living, Skilled Nursing & Residential Care Homes.
Note:
Safety is always the primary concern in any Living Solution.
UD can address many Safety issues first.
Focus next on the secondary issues of Comfort and Independence using UD in products and spaces.
